Works For Me Wednesday- Universal Packing List

February 4, 2009

works-for-me-wednesday It is really some sort of miracle feat that I am even posting tonight. My day began with my hubby calling at 5:45 from the airport where he was scheduled to fly to Canada at 6:30 telling me he had forgotten his passport. That is A.M. people. It was pretty much a downhill slide from there that ended with a strep diagnosis for Lily and a three hour wait at Meijer for anti-biotics. Let me just tell you I am apparently supposed to earn my trip to Nashville for Blissdom this weekend.

Anywho, enough about my drama, things can only get better. Please, let things only get better!! I am three days away from needing to pack all sorts of cute clothes, shoes and enough under armor to cause some serious security concerns. I hate packing. Does anyone enjoy packing? Well maybe my grad school roommate who used to put each outfit into a labeled plastic Ziploc bag and make insanely detailed packing lists. I kid because she doesn’t read my blog. And J, if you do, you know I love you and would never make fun of you behind your back without doing so to your face all throughout grad school. That is the kind of friend I am.

This blog post actually has a point, and a good one. I love, love, love this site for helping me pack. It is a universal packing list that you can personalize for your destination, length of trip, mode of transportation and a whole lot more. It reminds me to bring things like sunglasses (please let me see the sun, I have forgotten what it looks like), a razor (in case I have to do this again), cell phone charger (I always forget this!!), and camera (see above). I also choose to ignore advice like pack sensible shoes (hello, I don’t even own a pair).

It even gives you a list of things to do before you leave like confirming your flight info, putting new batteries in your camera and doing the dishes (sorry hubby, I am leaving that to you while I am gone). A good reminder when you are running around like a chicken with your head cut off. If you are traveling with kids, this is especially helpful because let’s be honest, you end up doing all their packing too. My hubby once told me quite lovingly that he hoped I never died cause he wouldn’t know how to dress our girls. I am a proverbs 31 wife if ever there was one.

You wanna know the best part of this list. That I am not packing for any kids, any hubby, any other person whatsoever. Just for me!! Oh ladies I can hardly wait.

For more great ideas, head over to Rocks In My Dryer.

Hey, thanks! That will come in useful in about 5 weeks (oh who are we kidding, I’ve already started packing in my head!) when I have to pack for me, the toddler, and quite possibly my husband as well for a 2 week trip by plane to the other side of the world. Wooh, it will be fun… but not the packing part!

Very cool! We never used to need a list.
Now we have one – and we would be lost without it. Have fun this weekend!

My need for lists has increased in direct proprotion to my age, which when you multiply by the number of boys I have, and add in a husband, well, you get a mom who lives by lists.

    Thanks for the site!

Awesome site! Thanks for the tip. My hubby travel all the time and is not the best packer. He’s always forgetting important pieces such as socks, toothbrush, and…. underwear. This site will help him tremendously. ;-)

Awesome packing list site! I bookmarked it. :) We’re planning a trip down to So. Cal sometime in June.

So… I’ve wanted to ask, where is this Rocks In My Dryer place that you speak of?

What a cool list maker! I just tried it out b/c we are going on a trip in a few weeks. The trip is just for a long weekend but when you are packing for 6 (including 4 kids ages 7, 5, 3 and 1), it takes forever to pack.
Thanks for passing on the link!

Are you an “apprentice” or a “maven” at this conference? I would of course assume that you were a “maven”, but I would have to look that word up to be sure of what it meant. Have fun this weekend!
