Works For Me Wednesday - Multitask Your Way To Clean Bathrooms

August 20, 2008

This is my last week of reruns. Next week, I will have a brand spankin’ new WFMW. I know, you can hardly contain your excitement.

If there was any chore that I would like a magic fairy to come do for me on a regular basis, it would be cleaning the bathrooms. Do you think somewhere, somehow a magic bathroom fairy exists? Wait a moment while I dream….

The problem I tend to put off this chore as long as possible. Not so long that fuzzy things grow in the potty, but definitely AS LONG AS POSSIBLE. So I have come up with a plan to keep me on a regular schedule. When the girls are in the bathtub, I clean while they bathe. They can’t get in my way cause they are splashin’ away and I can clean in relative peace. Notice I said relative.
Of course I can’t do the tub cause they are in it, but I just strap a sponge to their butt with some soft scrub and let them clean while they bathe. I briefly considered leaving that there and just publishing the post, but I fear child protection services might knock on my door. Of course I don’t strap sponges to my children…I kid, I kid…I just do the tub when fuzz starts to grow.

Thanks to Flylady.com I have been able to conqure the bathroom duties…I “swish and swip” daily…I use washclothes to wipe out the sinks and down the counter, I use a microfiber cloth for the mirrors…and a paper towel for the toilet…then I swish the bowl and flush. As for the tub, I clean it with my scrunchie while I’m in it…soap is soap…but now that we have separate bathrooms, I haven’t figured out a way to clean the kids tub…unless I shower in it once a week or so…

Just to clarify, I did mean to say the good tip is the cleaning while they bathe part not the sponge on the butt. :)

I have to admit, I actually like cleaning the bathroom. I don’t enjoy dishes, have any advice on those???

No seriously though, that is a good idea about cleaning while they are taking a bath. I am always looking for ways to multi-task.

Thanks for the tip and the major laughs! I love reading your blog!

I think it is an excellent idea, cleaning while they are in the tub, but I love the sponge on the butt idea…hilarious!

The bathroom is the room in the house that I hate cleaning the most as well. I dread having to clean it. The only thing that works for me is deep cleaning it on Saturday and then touching it up every few days or so by wiping down the sink, mirror and toilet seat. I clean the tub about once a week as well. It is a rule in my family, when you get out of the bathtub, wipe it down. That is how I keep the “fuzz” from growing on it. :)
