Works For Me Wednesday- Holiday Shopping Online

November 25, 2008

Well I am almost done and it isn’t even Thanksgiving yet. I am usually so not this on top of things. This year I even have a spreadsheet. A spreadsheet people!! This is unprecedented. Or as George would say, “Unprecedented baby!!” (anyone besides my brother know what that is?)

I like to shop online. Cause have you been to a mall or Target lately? I am thinkin’ people did NOT get the memo about the recession. It is madness in there. Plus the liklihood of me running into someone I know when I am in sweats with no makeup is drastically reduced online. So here are my tips for online shopping.

  •  If you are going to shop online, why not benefit someone else in doing so. Head over to Box Tops For Education and pick your child’s school. Then shop through their marketplace and your school benefits. Over 70 stores are represented and will donate up to 8% to your school of choice. Seriously, this is a no brainer win-win.
  • Are you aware that many stores have their Black Friday sales going on online too. Amazon has a whole Black Friday thing of it’s own. Here are a bunch of online Black Friday deals at the major retailers.
  • Then there is Cyber Money. Rumor has it, it is better than Black Friday. And much less “make you want to gouge your eyes out from all the crazy people running around.” This site seems to have some good previews up, but they are less likely to leak out than Black Friday.

So my tip is grab your laptop, curl up in your pjs and shop away. The only person you will have to fight off for that to die for gift is your five year old who insists that she needs your laptop to play with her Webkinz. But I am pretty sure you can take her.

For more tips, head over to Rocks In My Dryer.

I’ve done all my Christmas shopping online for the past few years. I love it. And I can’t go back to regular shopping. I’m too afraid of all the crazy people!

Great advice. I think I am only going to go to one store. Kohls is having a sale on GPS’ and I really need one. It is such a good price, I might just have to set my alarm for 5!

There are dozens of sales on http://www.etsy.com as well. I really like shopping there because it’s all handmade, so you’re supporting real people who are making a fair wage. No sweatshop labor, no lead-based paint, just real people offering some really neat stuff!

I’m surprised at how fast you went from “I’m in a funk” to “a spreadsheet” so quickly! Now that’s something to be thankful for!!
