When we had our dog a vac that could actually pick up her hair (fur?) would have made cleaning much easier. Now that she has left us (she lived a long good life) over a year ago yet her hair lives on in all the corners & crevices of the house. I'd say get the vac but forget the dog unless you are really a dog lover!!!! The kids should provide you with enough opportunity to test that vac's real abilities.
