You know what is a smart marketing/philanthropic campaign? Telling people if they eat ice cream, money will be donated on there behalf. You wanna know who this is particularly effective for? Pregnant woman. Particularly this pregnant woman. Especially when the charity is one that is for a cause near and dear to my heart.
For the past three years, Wendy’s has chosen to donate 50 cents from the sale of each Frosty on Father’s Day weekend to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. The money raised goes to the Wendy’s Wonderful Kids program, which funds full-time adoption recruiters at local agencies across the U.S., who in turn pair up parents with foster care children needing homes. I absolutely love this cause. For a long time now I have had such a heart for adoption and foster care in this country.
Back when I was a working woman I spent a lot of time as a pediatric physical therapist working with kids who were in the foster care system. At that time, I used to joke with my hubby that one day he would see my face on the nightly news because I would have run off with one of these toddlers. It just breaks my heart that there are kids in families where they are not loved and cherished everyday. I truly believe God has plans for our family to adopt or foster someday and I love that Wendy’s has consistently cared about this cause since their founder Dave Thomas had a first hand passion for it.
So how wonderful is it that all you have to do is order some ice cream and somewhere in America a child may be one step closer to finding a permanent home. Wanna do a little more for barely any more effort? Grab your kids, head over to Frostycard.com and send a fun e-card to the men in your kid’s lives. Wendy’s will donate an additional 25 cents to the Dave Thomas Foundation. You can even attach a coupon to the e-card for your kids to do a special little something for their dad.
