This is so true! Because we have an open concept house (and a long kitchen counter), when our counter is messy, it makes the whole house seem messy. Unfortunately, it is so darn easy to set stuff on it. We have been working hard on getting some stuff off the counter, but we still have a lot of *stuff* (appliances, etc.) along the edges.

I hear ya. I hate a cluttered counter.

Even though I just said that like the biggest hypocrite.

I completely agree!

If you keep your kitchen clutter free, since it is the heart of the home....you can feel more organized.

A clean, organized kitchen is a happy kitchen!

this is SO TRUE! I bought a baker's rack and put it against the wall in my kitchen so I still have all my gadgets handy, but my counter space is free. works like a charm. (just put the stuff with blades -- the knife block, blender, cuisinart, etc -- on the top rack away from toddler fingers.)

It's the kids things that are getting my counter down. Papers, projects, half eaten food. Ugh.

LOL, I was re-reading the posts you linked to and the last one was THE BEST! Personally, you can recycle old posts if you want to, it wouldn't bother me!

But you're right about the counters. Ours are wood and I like to keep them debris-free so when the mood strikes for me to oil them, they're ready!

Great post! And so funny--just last night I tackled the huge pile of paper and mail that accumulates on our counter. So much better. I am ruthless with appliances, and I hate knick-knacks in kitchens, but I'm terrible with the paper.

Really good tip! Hilarious about leaving anything with maker off the list. I had no idea there was a twinkie maker though....
