Work For Me Wednesday- Cleaning The Bathroom

wfmw I am heading to the archives this week cause I am fresh out of good ideas. Unless you consider it a good idea to polish off a sleeve of thin mints in one setting. Cause that definitely works for me.

If there was any chore that I would like a magic fairy to come do for me on a regular basis, it would be cleaning the bathrooms. Do you think somewhere, somehow a magic bathroom fairy exists? Wait a moment while I dream….

The problem I tend to put off this chore as long as possible. Not so long that fuzzy things grow in the potty, but definitely AS LONG AS POSSIBLE. So I have come up with a plan to keep me on a regular schedule. When the girls are in the bathtub, I clean while they bathe. They can’t get in my way cause they are splashin’ away and I can clean in relative peace. Notice I said relative.

Of course I can’t do the tub cause they are in it, but I just strap a sponge to their butt with some soft scrub and let them clean while they bathe. I briefly considered leaving that there and just publishing the post, but I fear child protection services might knock on my door. Of course I don’t strap sponges to my children…I kid, I kid…I just do the tub when fuzz starts to grow.

For more ideas, head over to We Are That Family.

  1. Oh yeah, that fuzz is a science experiment. What a thoughtful mom you are….wait…what? Oh, grody tubs don’t count? Gotta go, I have a few tubs to scrub….

LOL…don’t think you are the only one who hasn’t briefly considered strapping a sponge to your kids’ butts while they bathe :) !

Sponges…never thought of that! I did sometimes give them a washcloth or scrub brush with a squirt of shampoo and let them scrub the walls while they were in the tub.

I do this too :) Then, after the last bath of the night, I use one of their towels (that’s headed straight to the laundry anyway) to wipe down the tub. Since it’s been soaking with warm water during bath time, it’s pretty easy to shine it up.

The exception? Well…found a floating turd in the bath water the other day. My 1 year old’s little “bubble making” turned out to be…um…productive. That called for a bit more scrubbing. And bleach. And antibacterial soap.

LOL I was buying the strapping the sponge idea and thinking, “wow..cool :D ” I make my kids scrub while they are still in the tub once the water starts letting out. The still think that sort of thing is fun.

  9. Great idea! I’ll have to try that next time my daughter is taking a bath. My boys are too old for me to hang out in the bathroom while they shower now. Wow — where did the time go? How did they get so big?

  10. Great tip! I’m all about making good use of that time the kids are in the tub. I’ve been known to drag my computer in the bathroom and blog while they bathe, but your idea is much more productive!!!

  11. Well, how creative! But why NOT write a post about finishing off a sleeve of thin mints. (Hmmm, though at 23 weeks pregnant, I really don’t need any encouragement in this area.)

I have discovered that to be the best time to clean the potty myself! Really, they are happy as larks playing in the tub and I can clean my procrastinated toilet so that it smells just like a giant tub of Pine-Sol. Don’t you just wish they made Pine-Sol air fresheners for the bathroom??? I do! My kids like to clean so much (probably because it’s such a rare activity around here) I should just give them a sponge and tell them to clean the tub with the soapy water from the bath! :) I may try that tonight! I HATE to clean the tub! Thanks for the tip!

Now that my kids are a little older THEY get to clean the bathroom they use. It is a beautiful thing and they do a pretty good job too. But lets face it…I do have to go in quarterly or so and give it a good ‘all over’ the way I think it should be done. But I don’t tell them that. They come home from school and clean the clean bathroom and never know the difference. It has been a big help…now if there was someone I could pass the master bath off too…..sigh.

I’ve been doing that every now and then, too. My 7 yo likes “company” when she’s showering, so I do a little swish and swipe while I’m there.

Ummm…just did the sleeve of Thin Mints last night. Don’t tell my Weight Watchers leader.

  22. You are better than me! I used to sit next to them and read while my kids were in the bathtub, lol! I have to recommend the Magic Eraser for cleaning the tub. It does an amazing job.

Our tub didn’t drain for days after bathing the dog and left a yucky tub ring and the Magic Eraser cleaned it up easily. I was amazed. I also didn’t bathe the dog in the bathtub again….

I have to come clean (hee). I’m the weirdo who LOVES to clean the bathroom.

It seems to be the only room in my house that I can go in, spend 15 minutes cleaning and it looks like a show piece. Every other room just looks like I’ve cleared up the bomb fragments, but left the rest of the devastation behind.

Do you think there is a “rest of the house” fairy?
