Week 10- A Weekend Getaway

December 8, 2007

sex-challenge.gif I am writing you from sunny Key West! The hubby and I have taken a much needed (child free) weekend vacation to a warmer destination. Hotel room with someone else to do the cleaning, no kids, warm weather…sounds like a recipe for some 1 Cor. 7:5 action!

Now, I recognize everyone can’t pick up and head out for a warm weather weekend away. A weekend “vacation” doesn’t even have to mean leaving home. Grab a grandparent who is dying for some time with her grandbabies, ship them off and have a weekend together without kids. Or consider staying in town at a local affordable hotel. You could even swap houses with a really, really generous friend who wants to take on your kids.

We didn’t do so good with this after the first kid was born. One of us (who will remain nameless to protect his innocence) didn’t want to leave her for the weekend. Little did he know what awaited him when we went away. Suddenly the wife was feeling, how should I put it…much more amorous than usual without the stress of domesticity weighing her down. All it took was one vacation and he has been eagerly planning weekends away ever since.

Maybe you are the one afraid to leave your precious kiddos behind. Let me remind you one day those kids are going to grow up and leave home. Then you and your spouse who have forgotten to take time for each other will look across the table and wonder who you have become. It is so important to your marriage (and your kiddos) that you take time away from them to remember why you fell in love in the first place, before those kids starting competing for all your love and attention.

So your assignment this week is to block out a weekend away on the calendar. Nothing fancy, the only rule is no kids allowed and lots of lovin’ happening while your away. By the way, if you see my hubby next week a little tanner and a LOT happier, you will know why.

I would like to add that this is just as difficult, and just as important, for us couples without kiddos yet. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in everyday life – whether it’s kids, schedules, work, whatever – and it sparks some fire for all of us when we can step away from it for a while. Have fun in Key West!!

Well, I just read this, now that the weekend is over. I haven’t been fully participating but this weekend we DID have a child free weekend. And we DID take advantage of it. It’s great to be able to focus just on each other every once in a while!! :)

Our biggest problem is that we don’t trust anyone to watch our kids, especially since we’re in a new area and don’t know anyone. But my parents are moving here and we can’t wait! LOL

The weekend getaway will have to wait until the baby is weaned…I wouldn’t mind leaving her with grandparents but the way she screams when she wants Mama…I just couldn’t put anybody through that!

I totally agree with this! Hubs and I took a little 3 day trip just before Thanksgiving and it was wonderful. We’re going to make it a point to have our own vacation every year now. We didn’t know what we were missing out on.
