I just discovered my blogging friend Amanda has a lovely new blogging carnival on Tuesdays that I decided to participate in. I don’t think I will be doing it every week, but since my pregnant brain has left me with regular writer’s block, it seemed like a good idea for today. Plus today is one of those days where I need to remind myself why I love being a mom. Yeah, you know those kind.
- Listening to my girls giggle through the monitor: I love the friendship that is developing between my two girls. More times then not, they play wonderfully together and are truly the best of friends. It brings my heart joy in a way I never knew it would
- Having to answer the “hard questions”: I know this is a part of parenting most people don’t enjoy, but Lily is such a thinker. I love listening to what her mind is thinking about. She challenges me to understand the world better and know what I believe.
- Unexpected bouquets, pictures, notes, kisses and “I wuv you”s: What more is there to say.
- Really bad jokes: Sure they can get annoying. Really annoying, but I would miss out on such gems as “Why did the fire cross the road? Cause the fire hydrant was on the other side.” (insert insane amounts of giggles from 2 little girls).
- Having an excuse to go to Krispy Kreme, McDonalds, etc: It’s a treat for the kids…..really.
- Watching my hubby be a dad: I did not know that having kids would make me love my hubby more. But it happened the instant he held Lily in his arms. And it happens everyday all over again. And on that note….
- Realizing my parents were pretty much right: This isn’t really a reason I love being a mom as much as a future guarantee that those “You’re a mean mommy” moments don’t last forever. Someday they will realize what a fantastic mom I am. They better!
- Celebrating small successes: When Lily cleans up her whole room without being asked or reminded so that she can surprise me. When Hannah says a word with all the right consonants and all the right vowels. When we make it through a trip to the store without a meltdown. It doesn’t take a lot to make a mama proud.
- A heartfelt “I’m sorry” after they mess up, tears are quickly wiped away and everyone goes back to playing: Don’t you wish everyone operated this way? What a different world we would live in. As Hannah would say, “I happy now” as she goes about her happy little life.
- Watching 2 little girls kiss a belly and tell a sibling they have never met how much they love him/her: Even better, laying their hands on my tummy and thanking God for the baby and praying that he/she grows up to love Jesus. You can’t tell me life gets any better than that.

I love #1 for the same reason. My girls get along so well, for the most part. They have their moments, but it doesn’t last long. Number 10 is beautiful.
