Things I Love Thursday- The Verve Pipe

January 20, 2010

TILT Have you ever known someone who knows someone who is famous? And somehow you try and attach yourself to that person and act like you hang with someone famous? One of my hubby’s close friends is cousins with the singers in the Verve Pipe. Remember that song “The Freshman?” I won’t tell you how I old I was when that song was played on the radio non-stop. I think I was like 12…..ahem….

Anywho, one day I was at bible study the band and the song came up and I was all, “I totally know them in real life….well my hubby does…..he hangs with them…..(mumble, mumble, details, details). ” The woman sitting next to me turned to me and said, “That’s my brothers’ band.” Well of course it is. How lame am I? Did I mention I totally sang back up for Barry Manilow in college?

Well they have recently released a new album and it is for kids!! Can I just tell you how much I love “kid’s” music that doesn’t sound like kid’s music. I would listen to this if I didn’t have kids. A Family Album reminds me of some of my other favorite kid’s music by They Might Be Giants, Barenaked Ladies and even Imagination Movers. It is just a really fun time with smart music. And best yet, my kids love it. Their fave: Wake Up. The Hubby and my fave: Be Part of the Band.

They are touring around doing kid’s shows right now. Mostly in the Midwest and East coast. Here is a list of tour dates. You should totally check them out and name drop. Say you know The Diaper Diaries personally. They will be super impressed.

*I was provided a copy of this CD to review. Mainly because I regulary hang with the band. Opinions are my own. Even though I hang with the band. Did I mention I know the band.

What do you love this week? I would love for you to join in. Here are the guidelines for Things I Love Thursday. Link up below.

I loved that song! Actually, when I made a mix tape/CD to celebrate my high school friends and my 30th birthdays, that was on there! And I also love BNL and TMBG kids’ music. :)

There is a great compilation kids’ CD called “The Bottle Let Me Down” that you should check out. It’s of the same non-cloying kid music variety as TMBG and The Verve Pipe (who were on NPR recently with their new CD!)

I went to high school with Papa Roach. I somehow doubt that they’ll be putting out a kids’ CD…

Well I don’t love the unwanted facial hair I’ve recently found but I do love my birthday and getting spoiled. I have linked to my birthday menu for today with recipes for my favorite pancakes, drinks, soup and birthday cake.
