Make 4 pizza crusts at once and freeze the dough for the other 2 or 3 in individual baggies.

I like to cook several pounds of ground beef or chicken in my crockpot. Then I just divide it up into freezer bags to use as needed. Cooking meat in the slow cooker makes it SO tender!

I make double batches of a lot of things…pizza dough, soup, chili, sauces, etc and freeze half for later use. Even when I think there is nothing for dinner, I usually can scrounge up a meal just by setting a couple things on the counter to defrost.

To cut corners, I regularly make a whole meal based on Kraft’s Velveeta Shells and Cheese. Just add a meat, maybe some veggies, a few seasonings and voila! A new (easy) and exciting dish.

To cut corners… I plan ahead, this may not seem like cutting corners but if I plan ahead I waste less time every day trying to figure out what to make. And anything that says quick, easy, or instant on the can attract me. I always read the labels though, a lot of the convenience foods have a lot of junk in them. I will be looking for these cookies. We live on a military base in Italy and new things take a while to get here. :)

When I chop onions, I pick an extra big one then freeze what I don’t use, same with shredded cheese and evaporated milk. They all freeze great and are handy to have on hand for pulling together meals and recipes.

When I make homemade cookies, I never cook all the dough. Instead, after scooping it out onto the cookie sheet, I stick the cookie sheet in the freezer for an hour. Then I take my already-portioned dough balls and put them in a freezer bag and return it to the freezer. Whenever I want cookies, I just bake as many or as few as I like.

  14. Good to know about the cookies. We figured that like everything else, if we are ‘good’ about how we eat 80% of the time we can botch the remaining 20 and still live. I’m glad I can move a quick cookie fix from the 20 to the 80th %ile now.

  16. Cutting corners: I like to make up a big batch of cookie dough, scoop it with a melon baller, and freeze the scoops on cookie sheets. Then I bag them and can pop a few of those in the oven whenever I need fresh cookies.

I’m always on the lookout for a good cookie :) . If I can get mine up it’ll be a food post – again- and I’m not even pregnant!

I cut corners by seperating my meat out before it goes into the freezer that way I only use what I’ll need and not have to eat chicken for a whole week.

when I am cooking, I cut corners by not measuring. I know, it’s terrible. It’s why I’m not much of a baker. But I just hate measuring. I eyeball pretty much everything!

Myra stole my idea! Lol I always cook tons of meat ahead and then freeze it in “1 meal” portions! I also stockpile all my groceries using coupons and such, so I use the allrecipes.com website to help plan meals based on the cheap groceries I have in my pantry, rather than buying a whole bunch of other ingredients!

If I make a whole chicken, I can usually get 2 meals out of it. We’ll have just chicken and potatoes and veggies the first night, and then I’ll make enchiladas or something with the rest of it another night…..Oh, and I love my food chopper for chopping up onions and carrots and things.:) Thanks for the giveaway!

  25. I cut corners by using generic brands as much as possible, especially when I’m cooking. You can’t even tell the difference!

I’m like you where I like to get rid of the HFCS but also want some convienence foods. The ‘only bake 4 cookies at a time’ is really handy too! I’d love to try these :-)

I cut corners by making extra. For example if I’m cookign chicken breast tonight, I’ll make a couple extra for the fridge or freezer to make that next meal prep even quicker and easier. Thanks for the chance to win.

So I like to offer a hot breakfast in the morning and my husband’s favorite is pancakes. At the start of the week, I mix up an entire batch of pancakes (usually makes 12ish). Then I cook the number I need and refrigerate the rest. Each morning, I just spoon out (after vigorous stirring) the number of pancakes I need. It saves me time mixing and cleaning every morning AND everyone still gets a hot breakfast. Another alternative is to make the whole batch of pancakes (or waffles) and then freeze them for the week. The toaster warms them without making them soggy.

I keep extras of nearly everything in our freezer – pizza dough, already-baked muffins, fruit for smoothies, very ripe bananas for bread. If you’re going to make a mess for 12 muffins, it’s no more clean-up to double or triple recipe! And it’s easier to eat them the second time… Always a bonus for me!

I’m eliminating the HFCS and partially hydrogenated fats from our diet as well. But, who doesn’t need a convenience food sometimes? Thanks for the chance!

I like to cook a bunch of chicken in the crock pot, then divide it up into baggies and put it in the freezer for later. Then later when I make a casserole or something that calls for cooked chicken, I can just take it out of the freezer, defrost it, and chop it up.

I like to dice up a whole onion even when I only need part of one, and then freeze the rest so I don’t have to dice onions every time I need them. I just take out the frozen diced onions and add them to my recipes! Voila!

I like to buy fresh chicken breast and ground beef in bulk. Then I do any trimming or cutting (like cutting strips, chunks, or breast size pieces) and then freeze dinner portions into freezer bags. I can cut up chicken for strips, chunks for chinese chicken, and all have it labeled and ready for cooking fresh from the freezer. The beef I separate into 1lb portions or premake patties for burgers.

What corner don’t I cut?! I use frozen veggies, jarred sauces, cookie and cake mixes, canned fruit. MAs an example, my chicken pot pie is made with Pillsbury pie crust, frozen vegetables and cream of chicken soup. I’m all about the shortcuts!

Thanks for sharing this new item.

Something I do is cut up extra onions when I’m cooking so I don’t have to cut them the next time. Also I like to buy a big pack of beef at the store, cook it all at the same time, then portion it out and freeze it. It saves a step while cooking.

I use a lot of convenience foods combined with some homemade. For example, I use a jar of tomato sauce (whatever I get on sale) and then dump in some chopped onion, any other bits of veggies I have in the fridge, and shake in some seasonings. It tastes so much fresher than usual jarred sauce, without the work of dealing with tomatoes.
