Things I Love Thursday- Pandora Radio

February 18, 2009

tilt  I love music, but I spend a lot of time trapped in kid’s music land. My kids actually listen to great kid’s music, but anything listened to 45 times in a row gets a little old. Occasionally I put up a fight to listen to my own music in the car, but sometimes the whining from the backseat for “If Your Happy And You Know It” gets you to a point of road rage that could result in your being plastered on the 5 o’clock news, and you just give in.

But then the kids aren’t paying attention, I pull up Pandora and I get to listen to my music. Pandora is fabulous. You pick and artist, album or song and it will play a station full of songs and artists you would probably like. You can refine your station by giving songs thumbs up and thumbs down. You can even set your station to avoid explicit lyrics so you won’t have to explain things to your kids.

I won’t tell you all my stations, cause I have a lot, but I will give you the highlights. Fleetwood Mac for some classic rock (heavy on the air guitar). Justin Timberlake to indulge my guilty pleasures. Indigo Girls to remember my college angst (which I never really had, but my music did). And my personal favorite, my Thriller station for some old school MJ in which I can remember fondly the all skate at the local roller skating rink.

I just love Pandora and am rarely disappointed by what is being played. And many times, I am introduced to new songs and artists that I didn’t even know existed before. Which is super helpful to someone who finds out about new music through Sesame Street. Which is quite demoralizing to someone who used to pride herself on being hip to what is going on in the world of music.

Do you use Pandora? I would love to know some of your stations cause I need some new ones. I also want to know what else you love. So link up in Mr. Linky and spread the word to your blogging friends. If you are new and need some guidelines, head over here. Otherwise, play along!!

    Hey Girl!
Just wanted to let you know that I did it. I got my nose pierced today. My husband was with me, and it didn’t hurt much at all. (Although I have chronic daily pain anyways, so what do I know about regular pain.)
They made me get a hoop, that I’m supposed to wear for 3 weeks, until the skin around the hole heals. Then I can put in that cute little rhinestone stud I bought.
Thanks for giving me the push I needed…
    Michelle ;)

A friend just told me about this! It sounds so fun and right up my alley because I just can’t stand commercials! I need to start learning some new music and artists instead of just listening to my daughter’s favorite – Super Silly Songs! :)

My husband has used this at our house before. I’ll have to check it out.

We also listen to our Ipods on a speaker stand that has playlists for us and the kids.

    You stole my TILT!
I like Adele, Kelly Clarkson, Kings of Leon, The Killers, Weezer, Kanye West, The Replacements, The Pixies, Death Cab for Cutie, The Smiths, Madonna, Social Distortion, Blur, Oasis, Dropkick Murphys, and REM among others. I don’t have Bad Religion on there, but they seem to play it every other song!

I finally checked this out – LOVE LOVE LOVE it!

Along with an Indigo Girls station (I DID have that college angst – not just in my music), I have a Black Eyed Peas station and a Mozart station (I love classical music on especially in the a.m.), George Gershwin and Emmylou Harris (but I don’t really like this one – it turned out more country than folk…). And this is only the beginning…

Planning to bring my laptop to the basement this afternoon so I can Pandora while I exercise!

I just recently discovered Pandora also! My music is all Christian so far.

I had to laugh at your non-angst filled college comment. When I was in high school I kept waiting for all the angst that others kept talking about and it never really happened. Don’t get me wrong, I was moody, just not quite to the angst degree. I thought I had missed out on something, but then I decided that I would consider myself blessed to have missed it!

Hi! Found your blog while surfing and wanted to comment. I listen to Pandora continously at work. I have a ton of odd stations (like Zydeco) setup and it’s fun to listen to the variety. With no DJs!!

I also posted this in my blog too :)
