Things I Love Thursday- Orajel Toddler

May 6, 2009

tilt If you are a regular reader of my blog, I have confessed many a times that I have horrible dental hygeine. Horrible. But I have great teeth. My hubby takes immaculate care of his teeth and has a mouth full of fillings. It is one of life’s great inequities. But I know one of my responsibilities as a mother is to teach my kids to take care of their teeth. This ranks right up there with teaching them how to properly wipe their bums. Yippee!!

I find this task a bit intimidating. Kind of like the first time you clip your babies nails. You are somehow responsible for properly cleaning these little tiny teeth thoroughly. And then once they get the gist, making sure they do the job. Seriously, is this not stressful? I know if my kids get a cavity I am going to be staring down some dentist who will just automatically know that my “lack of flossing” gene is responsible.

Then there is the whole fluoride thing. Kids aren’t supposed to swallow it, yet most toothpastes contain it. Apparently it can cause spotting on their permanent teeth if they swallow too much. Have you ever tried to get a toddler not to swallow something? Unless it is green veggie flavored, my kids can’t not swallow toothpaste. Yes that is a double negative. Bad grammar is my middle name.

Anywho, around here we swear by Toddler Orajel Training Toothpaste. My kids prefer the Little Bear flavor, but if you prefer Thomas the Train as your toddler toothpaste spokesperson, they have that too. It is fluoride free which provides great relief to me. Lily has graduated to Barbie Crest, but Hannah loves her Orajel. Your kids will love it too.

What else do you love? Write a little ditty about it and let us know below with Mr. Linky. It’s that simple!!

We love that stuff at our house, too. Currently we are anxiously waiting for Thomas to be empty so that we can break out the new tube of little bear in the cabinet. Life is good.

We use orajel toddler too. We start using it at four months (as soon as the package says we can). We love it.

My boys are teens now. Wish they had that when they were little. Maybe they did, I just didn’t know it.

We love it too! Of course, the call of the Spiderman Colgate was strong, so we’re trying to teach Wog how to spit now.

We’re still using Orajel Baby and my daughter loves to eat it. As soon as I put the toothbrush in her mouth she starts sucking the toothpaste off. It makes it difficult to actually brush her teeth. But without the toothpaste she won’t open up. Sigh!

My toddler loves his Thomas the Train toothpaste, or “whoo-whoo” as he calls it. He makes the train whistle motion as he says it. It’s really cute.

Oh, we use the little bear toothpaste too. There are few things that Chloe loves more than brushing her teeth (a.k.a. eating toothpaste) LOL!

We use the Oral-B training toothpaste – it’s basically the same thing only ours is Winnie the Pooh. So my son doesn’t ask to “brush his teeth” he asks “Pooh teeth?”

I used that with Brianna. I guess I skipped it with Katie. I’ll have to get some for Alex. Now that he has two teeth, I guess I should be brushing them!

I never had a cavity growing up. My dental record was impeccable. Now as an adult, I have my first cavity and the world seems backwards to me. lol I have never thought about using the Orajel Toothpaste on my 20 month olds teeth. I have to hold him down just to brush them, and like you, getting him to not not swallow it is difficult. I think I will go and pick up a tube this weekend.

I’m right there with you on the toothpaste thing. I bought some yummy flouride toothpaste, but am totally intimidated by it so we’ve been sticking with Thomas toothpaste.

Now. . . any pointers on the bum wiping? :-)

We used the Little Bear toothpaste.

You know what confuses me? They’re not supposed to swallow the toothpaste fluoride… but Ana’s infant vitamin drops have “w/fluoride” indicated on the bottle… and Zoe’s pediatrician prescribed fluoride tablets “taken daily”.

Like the previous commenter above I had used Orajel Baby for my children, well it has been pretty effective for me to teach them how to brush their teeth properly
