So there are those foods in life that just remind you of another time. Like 90 years ago. Ok, so I wasn’t alive 90 years ago, but can you believe that Hostess Cupcakes were? Yep, those famous cupcakes with the white swirl on top and the white yummies in the middle. They were invented in 1919, but in 1950 they added the signature squiggle on top (which apparently always contains seven loops) and an icon was born.
Recently the people at Hostess sent me a few boxes and we went through them like crazy. My kids had their first taste of the cupcake. I would frequently find them with a chocolate mustache and a suspicious denial of eating the cupcakes. And I am just going to come clean and admit there were days where I didn’t stop at just one. Or two. They aren’t something I normally buy but man are they a delicious nostalgic treat.
Hostess wants you to help them celebrate the 90th anniversary of their iconic dessert. I have coupons for a free box of Hostess cupcakes to give away to 5 lucky readers.
- To enter, leave a comment below telling me what you love about Hostess Cupcakes.
- For an extra entry, follow @Hostess_Snacks on Twitter and tweet about this contest (of course leave a comment with the link)
- For a third entry, participate in my Things I Love Thursday carnival below. Click over here for guidelines on how to do so. You must leave a separate comment letting me know you participated in addition to linking up below.
The winner will be drawn next Wednesday night, October 7th. Good luck!

Oh, and I have a recipe on my blog for “whoopie pies” that taste like a hostess cupcake…not all that nutritious, but better than some treats:

My aunt used to work near the factory in Detroit where they made Hostess and would bring us bags of cakes from the outlet. They were usually smashed but us kids would lick the wrappers clean!
MMM the luscious chocolate, the cream in the middle, the thick rich icing. Mostly the icing. Thank goodness theres a box on my counter in the kitchen. Because now I seriously want a Hostess cupcake.
