Things I Love Thursday- Emerald Nuts

October 1, 2008

I have mentioned before how nuts are one of our favorite snack foods around here. Well for most of us. Not my hubby cause he is allergic. And we like him a lot and don’t want him to you know, die, so we try and keep the nuts away from him. But, he doesn’t know what he is missing. Especially now. Cause some genius over at Emerald Nuts has found a way to make nuts taste like chocolate.

I am not kidding people, chocolate!! Here is the press release for Emerald Cocoa Roast Almonds:

Emerald Cocoa Roast Almonds’ baked-in dark chocolate flavor boasts the same chocolate taste without the calories and fat of chocolate-dipped nuts. This new low-sodium, low-fat, trans fat-free nut snack provides a great source of protein and Vitamin E (a powerful antioxidant that may help protect against diseases such as Alzheimer’s).  One serving, which can be served by using the portion control lid of the container, is only 150 calories — the same number of calories as a handful of regular almonds! The lid measures out 1.5 oz servings, which is the FDA’s daily recommendation for heart health. Also, according to Runner’s World, a recent study found that “the fiber in almonds actually blocks some of the nut fat from being digested and absorbed,” and that “participants also reported feeling satisfied after eating almonds, so they naturally compensated for the calories in the nuts by eating less during the day.” Oprah also just named nuts as one of her “seven foods for a longer life”

While that is all nice and good, who really cares? Cause they taste like chocolate. And did I mention the chocolate. And it is good for you too. And the chocolate. Perhaps this isn’t the best “time of the month” to write an impartial review of the chocolate tasting nuts. Ahem.

They also are releasing a new Sea Salt & Pepper Cashew which nicely satisfy any salty craving you might be experiencing. Not that anyone is having any cravings, mood swings, or need to curl up in the fetal position all day with her salty and chocolate nuts. Again, ahem.

Anyway, but are very yummy and conveniently packaged with a lid that holds the recommended serving size which is great so you know when to stop eating them. But really it is just a suggestion, so if you find yourself consuming half the canister, don’t feel bad. Nuts are healthy, right?

Have anything you love? Particularly of the chocolate variety? No? Well, anything would be good really. Just brush up on the guidelines and link away. And spread some comment love around to the other participants. Thanks for playing!!

Now if they could just make chocolate flavored green vegetables, this whole mothering thing would be a snap.

I just saw those at the store and was wondering how they tasted. Almonds have so many health benefits already, adding dark chocolate is just bonus!

I am a lover of nuts. Especially cashews. Those are my favorite. I don’t know about the chocolate part though. I am not a huge fan of chocolate. I like the fact that the top lets you measure out the right portion amount. That is neat. I am still going to give them a try though. I will be looking out for them on my next trip to the grocery store.
