Actually I have a love-hate relationship with those ladies. I don’t always like the message they send to my girls (a while other post), but man do I love the way my girl’s light up with all things princess. And Disney aside, we try and stress that they were made to be princesses because they are daughters of the King. So I was so excited when we were given the chance to review the re-release of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Diamond Edition DVD and Blue-ray set. And imagine the squeals heard round the world when I told the girls.
They hadn’t seen Snow White before and loved it. Outside me having to explain the stepmothers aren’t all evil (come on with the step parents Disney) and what a dwarf is the viewing went smoothly. Although I am pretty sure the character of Dopey is not politically correct. The girls loved it and giggled every time the dwarfs came around. It was so fun to watch it through their little eyes.
Even though this DVD has Blue-Ray discs included, it contains a DVD for those of us who are praying that this whole Blue-Ray thing doesn’t take off so we don’t have to invest in yet another piece of technology that renders everything we have useless (what am I supposed to do with all these VCR tapes?). But it is a bit tempting when you learn this is what Blue-Ray offers over regular old DVD players:
- Up to 6x better quality than DVD
- 7.1 Surround Sound
- Immersive activity with games and special features
- Kid proof-more scratch resistant (hallelujah!)
- Plays both Blu-ray and DVD discs
- Blu-ray also plays on Sony Playstation 3
This movie is looking pretty good for being around since 1937. And this is the first time it has been offered in high definition sound with a bunch of great bonus features. I would have to say Dopey because when my boy was very little he had the cutest way of saying “Don’t be Dopey!” with a deep little boy voice. He used to make everyone laugh immediately with that line!

I have always liked grumpy, but My older brother always reminded my of Doc, or I should say reminds me. He was in love with Snow White, and teh amazing thing is that the girl he married last summer could easily have been Snow White! Coincidence? I don’t think so.

Howdy! I suppose my favorite is Sleepy, too.
Also – Blu-ray really IS that much better than a DVD, if you have a TV that is capable of showing the difference. (eg my mom and dad’s 20 year old CRT style TV that is so old it doesn’t even have a REMOTE probably wouldn’t show the blu-ray to its best advantage…. but we don’t have a top of the line huuuuuuuge fancy tv, just a 36″ flat screen and its mahvelous.)
And if you figure out what to do with all the VHS tapes, let me know. I’ve got a boxful we’ll never watch again…

Grumpy always made me laugh. This may be the only Disney princess show that I actually WANT my girls to see. It’s nice to see a princess who’s a hard worker and the story isn’t about how terrible it is that she has to work.
