The Wisdom of Children

Prayer time before bed is one of my favorite times with my kids. It gives me a little window into their heart and every once in a while clearly God uses that time to speak truth to me.

A few nights back Lily prayed, “God I want to thank you because you made the whole world….even the aliens. If they are real…..but I don’t know if they are real. The probably aren’t. But if they are that would be so cool. And if you could show me one in my dreams that would be awesome.” See that little nugget of wisdom.

In all seriousness, I often times struggle with staying content with what God has given me. When I came back from the Dominican Republic the struggle intensified as I straddled between two worlds. Desperately wanting to get rid of everything I own and yet coveting the whole Pottery Barn catalog. And hating myself for not being changed enough by what I saw.

Lily’s prayer a few weeks after I got back put it all in perspective, “God thank you for making us sooooo rich. And not just rich with money, even though we are, that part doesn’t even matter. But rich because we have you which is the most important thing. Amen”

Amen, indeed.

  2. That is awesome. I struggle with the kids learning to pray about relevant things. They have a hard time coming up with things every night and after I give a suggestion they just pray about that. Usually Kaden prays about being thankful for animals (it is a different animal every night, last night it was a bird eating spider). Any tips??

  4. Kids do say some amazing things…some really funny, some so cute. Its a good idea to write some of them down in a book for a keepsake.
