I am SO glad you said this. I think I need to do a bloggity PSA myself. Or buy this t-shirt I found on cafe press that says “unless you put this baby in here, do not touch the belly” or something along those lines.

but I’m also tempted by the one that says “pregnant is the new skinny.”

and I can’t afford both.

I’m with you, and I like to hug! I need contact, but ONLY from friends!!! When I was pregnant with my first, I couldn’t believe how many random people felt it appropriate to touch my oh so large belly! Now that I’m pregnant with my second, I’m much more guarded and when a random person wants to chat about the bump, I move my purse, cross my arms a little, or hold a sweater in front just to give every possible clue to the other person that you are NOT to touch me!!! =) Its just plain weird.

I am not much of a hugger either, but my BFF has totally converted me. She is the most huggy person I have ever met. She hugs everyone, and for a long time. When she and her mom hug it is like over a minute. I am not like that now by any means, but I really enjoy a good hug now, even by people I don't know well. Have so much fun at BlogHer! side hugs are okay. Belly pats – UGH. Unless you ask me, and I know you, then it’s okay. Handshakes would be okay if ppl washed their hands more often. (I mean, think of all the places those hands have been! ewwwww)
At church (small baptist church) I usually am holding a tissue b/c I have a runny nose (allergic to ladies perfumes and hairsprays, lol) so I just wave the tissue when ppl try to touch me and most of them back off
Sometimes they don’t and so then I’m like ‘sorry, can’t shake hands, I just had to wipe my nose’.

Anyways, I feel your pain.
