Of The Birds And The Bees

I think I have mentioned before that one of my favorite times of day is right before Lily falls asleep. I can tell her little mind is clicking away and I always get an insight into how her mind works. But sometimes that is also when the hard questions come out. Like last night…

Suddenly when I think she has fallen asleep, she taps me on the shoulder and asks, “Mommy, where do puppies come from?”

“Well, they come from their mommy’s tummy just like babies come from a mommy’s tummy.”

“Yeah, but how does a baby GET in mommy’s tummy.”

Stall, stall, stall, stall.

“Well how do you think a baby gets in mommy’s tummy?” Please, please, please guess something that can put a quick end to this awkward, horrible conversation.

“I think God puts them there when we pray for a baby.”

“Exactly right.” (whew)

Great post. I’m happy for you that your conversation ended so well. You really never know. When I was pregnant my 6 year old asked how the baby got out. I told him. He then looked at my, his mouth fell open, and he said “You have got to be kidding me.” I told him I had felt the same way many times myself!

    Awww, that is too cute!

Go with that reason for as long as you can! I’m filing that one away to use when my little one starts asking. Hopefully I can go with only that until she’s 18. :)

  6. One of my favourite subjects ever is “out of the mouths of babes.” That’s why it’s so cool to blog, because you write it down before it flies out of your mind!
