The Big Birthday Bash

June 7, 2009

The Diaper Diaries Big Birthday Bash I am so excited about this week!! Cause it is my birthday week. But that isn’t even why I am excited. Cause a birthday is just another year to get older. And the last thing I need is to get older. Do you ever look in the mirror and wonder when you got so old. Cause I still feel pretty young and hip. And I prefer to surround myself daily with people who tell me that over and over. Which is why I keep my hubby around. Although I am pretty sure part of the reason he tells me that is so he doesn’t have to come to terms with the fact that his wife is getting old and wrinkly and saggy.

Anyway, every year I, of course, spend time thinking about what I would like for my birthday. And I rarely have trouble coming up with a list. I am a stuff person. I just plain like stuff. Especially clothes-like stuff. But the last few years I am constantly struck at the gift receiving holidays of how much I really have. And not just on the “stuff” level. God has blessed my socks of with family, friends and reasons for joy. But on the stuff level too, we just have a lot. And in terms of what so many in this world are living on, we are overflowing with stuff.

So I thought this year for my birthday, I would share a little bit with those who need it. And I thought you all might like to join me. On Friday, my birthday, I am going to be hosting my “Big Birthday Bash.” I am going to be sharing one of my favorite charities with you all and if you feel inspired, you can donate a little money on my behalf. But the cool thing is, I am going to put up a Mr. Linky and you can write a post about your favorite charity too. I think it will be a great day of clicking around the blogosphere, seeing some cool organizations that are meeting the needs of people who have less and helping out.

Now I know, there are a lot of people who don’t have enough themselves and so the thought of sparing any money right now is, well insane. Then sit this one out. But a lot of us could spare $10-20, some of us a lot more. I am so excited to see what we can do when we all use the power of the blogosphere. You can spread your money around or give it all in one spot. It is totally up to you. Did I mention I am super excited.

There are just a few guidelines. Obviously, pick a legitimate charity. This is no time to pull a Constanza and invent the “Human Fund.” I will be checking all the charities to make sure they are legit. Also, since it is my birthday, I get veto power over any charity that goes, fundamentally against, what this blog and I stand for. I am not going to be a Nazi about it, but I just can’t get behind people giving a bunch of money to Planned Parenthood from my blog. I sincerely do not mean to offend anyone here, but it’s my birthday and so what I say goes :)

Finally, please grab the awesome button the super talented Aubree from The Southern Family made for me. Put it in your sidebar, put it in your post, put in up around town. I want this thing to be big. Here is the code:

Also, please link back here in your post so all your readers can join in too. Tweet it, Facebook it, Shout it from the rooftops. I know as a mom, I often feel like I am too busy raising my own kids to make a difference in the lives of others. But I find that often times it doesn’t take a lot to make a big difference. Will ya help me? It would be the best birthday present you could give me. See ya Friday!!

Ooh, I love this idea! I don’t have much cash to give myself, but I’d love to point people toward my fave charities.
