Spring Cleaning in….July?

July 5, 2009

cleaning  We skipped spring cleaning this year. Perhaps because I was still feeling like crap at that point. Or perhaps because I hate cleaning. But you just hit a point where you absolutely can’t stand it any longer and the clutter is driving you insane. And suddenly you have a garage full to overflowing with stuff to sell at a garage sale. Seriously, if it wasn’t nailed down, it was getting sold. I had to do most of my garage sale purging at night under the cover of darkness because anytime my kids were around they were all, “That is my favorite toy EVER!!” despite the fact I had not seem them play with it since I struggled for 4 hours to get it out of it’s packaging.

As I stated in earlier posts, the garage sale was a success, but the aftermath was a disaster. The house had been neglected in the lead up and days of the actual garage sale and in my purging I had left a trail of “things that had no home” in my wake. Oh and throw into the mix that Hannah was moving rooms, to a big girl room, which meant the office had to move which meant a game of musical chairs only with rooms instead of chairs. Spring cleaning may have some late, but nesting was coming early my friends.

My poor hubby did not know what hit him (move this, hang this, carry this). And my preggo body didn’t either. I am sore in places I didn’t know a person could be sore. But all the rooms are rearranged. Art work is even on the walls. Hannah is in a big girl bed (tiny sobs). Lily has a cool, new desk that I want for my own. Even baby #3’s crib set is up and ready and all his clothes are washed and put away. The house is IMMACULATE!! Not a piece of clutter to be found. Now if I can just keep everyone out of my house until October because I do NOT have it in me to do any more cleaning from now until this baby comes.

Wow! That right there is the reason I don’t like to HAVE garage sales. The trail of clutter and things that have no home. I’m glad that your house is spotless, however, even if it’s only for a while.

jealous!! but since I QUIT MY JOB (!!!) I will have lots of time after this week and I am praying my nesting instinct kicks back in long enough for me to get somethings DONE. or that my last commission check will cover a cleaning lady for a few hours.

Congrats! It sounds like you got so much accomplished. I should be inspired by you as my spring cleaning process has been dragging through the summer. Seems like I started the job, but never finished!

Oh girl, the SAME thing happened to me after/because of my garage sale. We’re still getting there, but I do have to say that getting rid of all that stuff (everything that didn’t sell went STRAIGHT to the thrift shop) was so cleansing.
