I am so terribly guilty of this as well. In fact, I’ve seen the links on twitter and avoided the news like the plague, because this world breaks my heart. I prefer to pretend like it’s all not going on and get sucked into the fluff, because the idea of people dying on the streets for freedom, or the fact that yet another child has been murdered or kidnapped depresses me. I instead pretend like none of it is going on and tune into Entertainment Tonight instead. I am very guilty of this, and feel bad, but I hate how I can’t help the world.
And if you ever read my blog – I’m just one rambling MESS!

you’re a really good writer. and I LIKE this kind of post. (I like fluff, too, though.) I like any kind of post where we get YOUR thoughts and insights – silly stories and troubling world events alike.
thanks for taking the time to share. this is good for prayer and pondering myself, this evening.

First of all- great post! I totally get where you’re coming from on this. My excuse for not staying current is because I don’t want to watch the news while the kids are around, but truth be told I could go to CNN or Fox News online instead of FB every once in a while. I would just prefer to live in my little world with my own little problems and not have to really deal with other things that are going on. But am I going to lift up world leaders in prayer (like the Bible says we should) if I don’t know what’s going on. You’ve given me a lot to think about- thank you!

The image of the woman dying on the street actually forced me to look away. We have all seen a movie where someone is dying in someone else’s arms but to see it in real life, was too much … is still too much.
I am as fluffy as a Three Musketeer bar but sometimes we need to be jolted into thinking, praying, and action.

i much prefer fluff too, but the hubs is all over serious news pieces. i had to look away at the footage of the girl getting shot in the streets of iran.

I’m one of those avid reader/random commenter. Fantastic points in this post. I have my internet homepage at cnn.com so I can read what is going on in this crazy world but lately I find it difficult to read. The Iranians are fighting hard for something they so strongly believe in and it makes me ponder if we, as Americans, would do the samething? In my blog, I am the most random, mostly fluffy writer but this post may have inspired something deeper. Thanks for sharing!

So agree. I’ve been really intersted in what’s going in Iran, but I think I selfishly enjoy being able to close my browser and not think about it anymore. Like it all goes away when I click the little red x.
I also think it’s fascinating how little people are talking about the possible prophetic implications for all of this…

This is such an interesting “event” that is happening and yet I’m the same as you. We have no TV and we don’t get the paper so when I don’t check a news website (which is not a habit) I have no idea what’s going on in the news. and lately our computer is so slow that I’ve had twitter off so I don’t even see things there.
I wish I could keep up better, but instead I play mindless games on facebook or just read blogs and randomness. It’s easy to feel guilty that we’re caught up in our own little worlds… hard to find the balance sometimes I guess.
I really do hope that the current guy (Ahminedjab or however you spell it) gets ousted, but I don’t have much hope that he will leave peacefully…

First time at your blog, but I saw your comment on another blog and had to visit just because of the name (you’ll notice our blog names are kind of cousins). This is a great post. I try not to get sucked up into the “fluff,” and am usually successful, but the “real world” is increasingly hard to swallow. I know we can’t turn a blind eye, but my mental health is much better when I subscribe to the “ignorance is bliss” philosophy. I try to reach out to others, mind you, but the sadness and upheaval in the world can be so discouraging.
