Remember when I used to do Music Monday? Yeah, me neither, but when someone (thanks One2One Network!!) offers you a chance to review ANYTHING by Sarah McLachlan, you do it. Words to live by. I am not sure how I would have gotten through my college years without the soundtrack that was Fumbling Towards Ecstasy. I think it was my “white, middle class, raised by a Leave it to Beaver family” way of expressing angst. I’m not even sure she is angst-y, but that is as dark as I got. With some Tori Amos, Indigo Girls and Alanis Morrisette thrown in for good measure. I was so deep.
Anyway, I meant to do this yesterday on actual Music Monday. Which I really write on Sunday night. So even though this is Tuesday’s post, I write it on Monday night so it is still technically Music Monday. Wait, don’t go!! I have a giveaway!!!! I’ll get back to Sarah. Did you know that she hasn’t released an album in seven years? I think it is safe to say the music industry has missed her. It is truly sad what is passing for musical talent these days. And not only is she releasing an album, she has brought back the Lilith Fair. I went two years in a row back in the day and loved every single minute of it.
Her new album is titled Laws Of Illusion and I have a really hard time finding anything remotely negative to say about it. I have a really hard time finding anything negative to say about any song this woman has ever released. I mean I have a Pandora station dedicated to her. I just think her voice is one of the best around and she sounds as good as she ever has. So this isn’t as much a review as a big old love fest. And truth be told, I got a sampling of the album last week and just got the full album today. I haven’t had a chance to listen to its entirety, but from what I have heard, I am voting “Forgiveness” as my favorite.
The album comes out today (Tuesday, June 15th) in all the usual places and I am happy to add it to my collection of every other album by her. Did I mention I love her? In a totally non- stalker way (although if I was going to be a stalker, I could start on Facebook and Twitter. Sarah if you are reading this, I am pretty confident we could be BFFs!!)
Want to win your own copy? To enter, tell me your favorite Sarah song. If you don’t know any, tell me who you would most like to see at Lilith Fair. I don’t really care, just tell me something other than “pick me!!” Deal?
For extra entries (leave a separate comment for each one):
- Subscribe to Diaper Diaries over email or reader or let me know you already do so
- Follow me on Twitter

Giveaway ends next Monday, June 21st when I will pick a winner using Random.org. Good luck!!
*I was provided with a copy of Sarah’s new album for reviewing purposes thanks to One2One Network. All opinions stated are mine alone.

All time favorite SM song is “Posession”–love it!!! My college music memories are so similar to yours.
Random story: in law school, I tried out for the a capella group by singing Sarah’s “Ice.”

Love anything she puts her voice to. Angel strikes a chord everytime – reminds me of a friend who’s in the arms of an angel.

Jill … I loved this post … because I can certainly relate to having a bit of a “Sarah infatuation” … I grew up in Canada listening to her music and have seen her many times in concert … the best time being in a Barnes & Noble store in New York City … I am Canadian and love it when Canadian artists get the recognition they deserve south of the border …. Alanis Morissette was another favorite … have you ever listened to Jann Arden … she is another great Canadian performer who also deals with a lot of emotional/angst type of issues in her music.
Some of my favorite songs include I Will Remember You, Good Enough, Shelter and Building a Mystery.
BTW … this is my first comment … I have been enjoying your blog for several months … thank you for all your insights and humour!

Going to find Jann Arden. I also love BNL. Maybe I should become Canadian?

I love “Good Enough.” I also like some of her really early stuff, but I can’t think of any titles right now.
