Little Drummer Boy- Things I Love Thursday (Plus a GIVEAWAY!!)

TILT Now with Halloween behind us it is time to start focusing our attention on Christmas. Yeah, I know Thanksgiving comes first but I am a Christmas girl!

I have mentioned many times on this blog that my love for all things Veggie Tales runs deep so I was super excited to get the chance to review their latest Christmas offering Little Drummer Boy.

I gotta say, I have always loved the story of The Little Drummer Boy from the song. There is something so sweet about a little boy who wants to give Jesus something, but has nothing to give. Honestly, not to get all deep, but who doesn’t feel like that?

It is a sweet story of a boy (Junior) who starts out angry and said, but an encounter with the newborn King  changes his perspective. He learns to give of himself and forgive those who have wronged him. Of course there are the usual subtle pop culture references that will make adults smile. The Veggie Tales can’t do wrong.

My kids love Veggie Tales too. I thought Lily might be getting a little old for them (although who is old for Veggie Tales?) but she said it got an A+. Hannah raved as well. Silas….. well Silas can’t talk. But I am just going to assume he loved it.

So while I love Little Drummer Boy I must say my absolute favorite things about the DVD is that they have animated “The 8 Polish Foods of Christmas”. It originally appeared on A Very Veggie Christmasand we listen to it a lot. Because my husband’s family is Polish, this song just makes us giggle. I might need to put this on repeat.

Speaking of Christmas CDs, Veggie Tales has a new Christmas album, O Holy Night: Journey of a Little Drummer Boy. I let the kids break out the Christmas music early this year so we could listen. And anything that combines Amy Grant and Christmas is automatically a favorite. Your family would love it.

But all of that isn’t even the real reason I love their new Christmas stuff. It is because Veggie Tales is once again partnering with World Vision. Because the message of the movie is one of giving, Veggie Tales and World Vision are partnering together to give families the opportunity to put that message into action. World Vision’s Gift Catalog offers goats, chickens, clean water and more than 100 other unique and meaningful gifts that provide love, hope and joy to children and families in need.

We get things out of it every year and let our kids pick gifts as well. It is such an easy and often inexpensive way to give back to impoverished people around the world. The story of Junior is a perfect way to bring up the topic with your kids. It could really make the movie come alive.

Would you like a copy of “Little Drummer Boy” and “O Holy Night”? Maybe to sock away as a Christmas present for your kiddos? To enter, simply leave a comment letting me know what your favorite Veggie Tales movie is. For an extra entry, link up to Things I Love Thursday and leave an extra comment.

The winner will be drawn at random on Wed., Nov. 9th. Sorry U.S. only.

Disclosure: I was provided with a copy of the DVD for review. But the love of Veggie Tales will always be my own.

What are you loving this week? Write a post about it and link up below. If you need more tips, check out Things I Love Thursday.

Not sure of the name of it, but it’s the one you shared a while ago–a princess one, with a song about how girls are beautiful just how God made them. My nephew, 6 year old niece, and I watched it, and I could see her start to glow during that song.

  24. Dave and the Giant Pickle, hands down. Years ago when I watched it for the first time, the “I Love My Lips” silly song came on and I laughed until I cried. (For the record, it had been a very stressful day. The talking vegetables put me over the edge.)

We listen to them constantly in the car and it brings such joy to hear little voices raised in song praising God. Thanks for sharing!!
