Hey Hallmark, I am on to you. I love holidays. Christmas, Easter, Halloween, even the 4th of July. We celebrate them all. We love them all. But let me be clear. They all do NOT require a card. Or a gift. Or a display at your store with useless trinkets.
But the one that bugs me the most is Sweetest Day. It isn’t even a real holiday. There is no fake mascot (bunny, leprechaun, fat man) or momentous historical event we are celebrating. What is the point of this day?
Ah, the point seems to be guilting us into spending money on cards and roses to tell the people we love that we love them. Wait, that sounds like Valentine’s Day. Except Valentine’s Day has a mascot (chubby little guy in diapers with a bow and arrow). And some sort of historical significance. Sweetest Day is rooted in the rich history of…..Hallmark completely making it up.
So no thank you Hallmark. Hubby you are completely off the hook. I will not buy into holidays invented by “the man.” (whoever he may be). We need to boycott this holiday people before Groundhog day requires a card and a dozen roses.
Thank you, that is all.

My father-in-law always buys us really expensive cards, like $5 cards. I am always thinking, “wow, I could have made that $5 go so far.” And then I feel obligated to keep it because it cost so much money. I think this is all Hallmark’s fault because they have tricked us into thinking that we need to buy $5 cards.
I have never heard of Sweetest Day, but that is down right silly in my opinion!

I totally agree but despite agreeing with your opinion, I still get more bothered by Thanksgiving Cards and 4th of July Cards - really? Who sends a greeting card for that? You’ll see them at the Turkey (or fireworks?) and if you won’t, write them a letter!

Sweetest Day is so ridiculous. It’s like having a half-Valentine’s Day. The Simpsons had a funny episode about “Love Day” which showed the pure stupidity of it all. I have never, and will never celebrate it. Lucky for my guy eh?

Sweetest day? Boy I must be out of the Hallmark loop, I’ve never even heard of that! Besides, even if an event did call for a card, it’s much more heartfelt to make one yourself (or use your free child labor
than spend way too much money on one at Hallmark.

I think even $1 cards are a waste of money… I keep telling hubby we should just go through the cards at the store and find our favorites. Show them to one another, kiss, and put them back. It’s all a joke, but still $5+ for a card?

Yeah, Sweetest Day gets on my nerves. It’s like Hallmark thinks they are in control of when a couple tells each other they love each other. And they ARE NOT THE BOSS OF ME!

We’ve only celebrated one Sweetest Day - the first one when we were dating. We had only been dating a couple weeks, so I guess we felt like we had too:).

Sweetest Day usually passes right by, and if we do happen to remember it, an extra kiss and hug is plenty.
Either way, enjoy!
