Frugal Friday- Zenni Optical

January 8, 2009

frugal-friday-2-736462 Today’s post comes courtesy of my darling hubby. Cause wanna talk frugal? I got Lasik eye surgery for free 10 years ago. You don’t get more frugal than free!! So I have to rely on him to relay cheap eyewear info to my bloggy peeps.

But my hubby refuses to get any surgery where they stick things in your eyes. So he has to still order glasses and contacts which end up costing a pretty penny. We  go through Costco so we save a little, but it still adds up. Then a friend of ours pointed us to Zenni Optical. And she pointed it out after we spent many a time admiring how cute and hip her glasses are.

Frames start at $8. Eight dollars!! Can I get a woot woot? And they have a wide range of styles to choose from so it isn’t like you have to get some ugly granny glasses (unless you like those, then go for it). Since they are so cheap, my hubby has bought several pairs so he can rotate them to match his outfits. Yeah, my hubby is a fashionista, but in a very manly way (you are ALL man babe). And they are guaranteed. We have had great experiences dealing with them and frankly haven’t talked to anyone who hasn’t.

So if you are visually impaired, check out Zenni Optical. And for more frugal ideas, check out Biblical Womanhood.

*psst…if you are coming over from Biblical Womanhood, please check out my Challenge. We have over 70 participants!!!

(hey it’s not friday yet, and I’m not even the first commenter!)

I am all about the cheap frames. we found a similar place when we first got married and I was too poor for contacts. (as a result, I am now a geek-chic glasses wearer pretty much all the time… nothing like a good deal to make a convert, right?)

how in the world did you get free lasik, by the way?

I bought two pairs of glasses last year from Zenni and I love them. I’m going to check in to laser surgery this year. Our insurance will pay 90% of the cost, but I’m far-sighted and may or may not be a good candidate for the surgery. If not, I’ll be getting glasses from Zenni again.

But I can’t figure out how to get all the info needed for ordering. Seriously. I have 2 pair picked on there that I love and for less than$20 bucks?!?!!! But…

Thanks for the recommendation! I continue to lobby the hubby for Lasik, but he’s convinced my eyeballs will fall out. I honestly think it’s the cost that’s making HIS eyeballs out. Gotta find out from Annie Jones which Cadillac insurance plan she has that will pay 90% of the cost. That’s awesome!

In the meantime, I think I’ll head over to Zenni.

How did you get free Lasik? Mine was free too, but that’s b/c my parents paid… I’m sure with how bad my eyes were that at least one of my kids will need glasses in the future, so I’ll keep this in mind!

Yeah can we back up? You got free Lasik how? I don’t care about sticking things in my eyes; what I care about is paying for it.

Thank you for this post. I have grown children who do not have health insurance that can use this information. And even though we have excellent coverage (including our eye glasses) this is a great way to get a “spare” pair “just in case”.
I sent you a private email was hoping for a private response. Don’t know if you got it or if I should try contacting you again?

I also had LASIK, about 10 years ago, but my eyes have deteriorated and after several years in denial I finally got glasses last year. I got them at Sam’s Club and they were still $225! So when I was looking for a place to get prescription sunglasses, I remembered your post, and went on to Zenni Optical. i just ordered two pairs, one with the tint and one just as a replacement pair of glasses. I hope I like them!!! It’s always hard when you can’t try on the frames but for $32 shipped for 2 pairs of glasses I am not complaining!
