Frugal Friday- Nielsen Home Panel

October 29, 2009

frugalfriday You know I am fan of ways to make money for doing virtually nothing. Actually I am just a fan of doing virtually nothing. If making money happens while I am doing it, that is just a cherry on top. One of the ways I have found to earn is by being part of the Nielsen Homescan Panel.

Essentially, you shop just like you always do and then when you get home you take a little scanner and scan the barcode of all your purchases. And I must admit, there is something very fun about using a little scanner thing. It reminds me of the days when I was little playing store and pretending to scan things. Except I used some sort of make believe scanner. This one beeps!! (Geez, what kind of life do I lead that this excites me?)

Then every week, you hook the scanner up to the computer, send in your info and earn points. You can also take weekly surveys to earn more points. Then you can trade those points for merchandise. And you get entries into sweepstakes. Which I never win, but I’m not bitter. So I guess it isn’t money per se, but I am hoping to trade in some points for some Christmas gifts. Did I mention how easy this is?

Nielsen isn’t always accepting new members so it isn’t always possible to get on this panel. But they are currently looking for people. To sign up follow this link. And in the spirit of full disclosure, I get points if you apply and are accepted. So we are back where we started, with me doing next to nothing and earning money. Ah, the circle of laziness.

Really and truly, most of mine are never used either. I do love teapots. They evoke a wonderful sense of calm to me. Blessings.

How are the points? Is it worth it? I have tried to sign up for survey things and such and got pretty much nothing…but if you say you get some real stuff out of it then I would love to try!
