Frugal Friday- Marshalls

October 23, 2008

I love a good discount store. Any kind will do, but the kind with brand name products at discount prices are my faves. When I lived in Chicago, Marshall’s was one of my favorite stores. Now I have to drive across town to get to one so I rarely go, but when I do, look out.

So I was really excited when I found out that Marshalls has begun opening up a new type of store called the Shoe Megashop. The concept is 5,000 square feet of shoe-lovers heaven, featuring top brands and the latest styles found in department and specialty stores, but for up to 60 percent less. Hello? Discount shoes. Point me towards them please. Suddenly across town doesn’t seem so bad.

So this week I went and checked it out. And came home with 2 pairs of shoes. Cause I got to be honest with you, it wasn’t the shoes. The shoes itself weren’t that different of differently priced than some other discount shoe stores. But the amount of quality shoes on clearance was impressive. And they weren’t all ugly leftover shoes that no one wants. They were hot black boot shoes. And cute little girls shoes. And I got to hop over to the housewares section afterward and pick up some slammin’ Christmas decorations. Can’t do that at DSW.

Incidentally I went into the local DSW one with my stroller. This was a huge DSW. Not one with cramped aisles or anything. They told me I needed to leave my stroller outside to shop. My double stroller so I could walk around their store with my 2 children and spend my money on their shoes. Thanks for the stellar customer service DSW. You might take note that I have never been back. And I don’t intend to.

A completely unrelated side note, but I feel like getting that off my chest. And stickin’ it to the man. The DSW man. So back to Marshalls Mega Shoe Shop. Great shoes, great stylish selection, great prices. And a great contest. The game is fun and you can win great prizes. Enjoy!!

DSW probably thought you were going to FILL that double stroller w/ shoes & make a hasty get away! They knew that a woman w/ 2 small kids in tow doesn’t NEED a double stroller, it’s just a ruse we all use & they saw right through you! :)

I haven’t been to DSW since the no stroller thing either. Are you kidding me? Why would you have a store with 99% women’s shoes and not let them bring a stroller. Bad marketing.

I must find me one of those. Never even heard of it and Marshalls is like my favorite store ever. With DSW coming in a close second. I may have to reevaluate if I find one.

Marshalls rocks my face off. Especially when my mom goes after each season and buys everything in the clearance rack for nathan to fit him NEXT year. Yeah my kid totally wears calvin klen for $3.

This makes me want to boycott dsw, too. ew.
