Frugal Friday- $5 Dollar Dinners

December 3, 2009

frugalfriday So I have mentioned before that one of my absolutely favorite unexpected joys of blogging has been the community of people I have met both virtually and in real life. I have discovered that bloggers are just the best people. Between the two blogging conferences I have attended and some local meetups I have met hundreds of women. And I can truly say that Erin Chase is one of my favorites.

Erin and I bonded at BlogHer 09 over our large bellies. There was actually a small gaggle of preggos running around and we just seemed to stick together. We that and the Land of Nod had a lovely preggo blogger event that we all were treated to. Which we followed up with a late night run to the Cheezburger party in which we devoured lukewarm McDonalds hamburgers at midnight. It was that night I got the full story on Erin’s blog, $5 Dinners.

Erin hadn’t even been blogging that long when her blog started to take off. As you can imagine in the current economy finding a way to eat dinner on a $5 budget is a popular idea. Over the past few years using couponing, sales and meal planning I have seen my grocery budget cut in half. At least. Well Erin has hit the jackpot. After several months of successful blogging, Erin got herself a book deal. I am sure mine is just around the corner. As soon as someone discovers the brilliance in a book about nothing (a la Seinfeld) I am gold.

Erin’s cookbook, appropriately titled, The $5 Dinner Cookbook, hit Amazon this week. Well not completely hits, it won’t be released until December 22nd, but it is now available for pre-order. Here is the official schpiel:

Cookbookcover Erin became a supermarket savvy mom, challenged herself to create dinners for her family of four that cost no more than $5 and is here to share her fool-proof method with you in her first cookbook that contains over 200 recipes that cost $5 or less to make.  First, Erin will show you how to size up the best supermarket deals, clip coupons that will really save you money and create a weekly dinner menu plan. Then, in each recipe she shows you just how much she paid for each item and challenges you to do the same.

I recently discontinued my menu planning service I was subscribing to so I am all over this cookbook. The recipes sound fantastic and I love the idea of eating well for less money. Cause that can only mean one thing. More shoes. Right? Isn’t that how it works?

For details on the book, (including the way to get the $5 Dinner Mom Holiday Recipe Pack free), head over to Erin’s blog. Or head straight over to Amazon and pre-order the book yourself (affiliate link). And for more frugal tips, head over to Life is Mom.

Oh! And I totally agree with it meaning more shoes. Only problem is that they will probably end up on one of my kiddos! :o )
