The cards are sent, the presents long unwrapped, the tree and decorations are FINALLY down, Christmas is officially over. Well for all the big people it is. The little people like to drag it out a bit. Not with decorations or even presents. They drag it out with Christmas music ALL YEAR LONG.
Now I like me some Christmas music. A lot actually. From Thanksgiving until Christmas. But there is something wrong with your kids dancing around in shorts and tshirts to “Jingle Bells.” Two years ago, they were obsessed with the Veggie Tales Christmas album. I like the Veggie Tales and all, but a girl can only take so much. Last year it was a step up with the Barenaked Ladies. I love that Christmas album, but you know how kids like to put things on repeat? Over and over and over?
Well this season things have taken on a new twist. Mostly because the sneaky mommy packed up the CDs with the decorations. So this year, the kids have decided in the absence of the professionals, they would take up singing themselves. The song du jour? “Deck the Halls”. Except they each have their own version:
Lily: Deck the Halls with halls of jolly, fa la la la la la la la la
Hannah: Deck the Halls with to be jolly, fa la la la la la la la la
Cute right? It so is!! And so the hubby and I have resisted correcting them because of the ridiculous cuteness. And we have told all relatives if they fix it, they die. Well not quite so dramatic, but close. But you know what is weird? After hearing it 759 times the cuteness begins to wane.
Lily has pretty much stopped, but Hannah continues to sing all.day.long. And she only knows that one line. ALL.DAY.LONG. Only 347 days until Christmas and maybe a new song to torture me with.
Do your kids torture you with anything that they do over and over?

LOL! I feel your pain, well at least sort of. My child was the one in the bathroom at Barnes & Noble the other day singing Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer at the top of her lungs while doing her business. It seems to be her particular favorite whenever we’re out and about these days in general. It’s cute, but not necessarily at the decibels she’s reaching!
Although I do need to get out the camcorder and record her one of these days.

My youngest is obsessed with books. I mean OBSESSED with Books!! And it is absolutely adorable to watch him go pick one out of the pile come over to my lap, place the book by my lap and ask for up “pup”. He doesn’t think you can read books unless he is on someone’s lap. LOVE it! BUT the number of times I have to read the book, absolutely kills me! This weekend we must have read his favorite for over 3 hours during the 2 days! I have had to hide a few of his favorites so I don’t have to shoot myself in the foot
And even worse I am a teacher, so I know the great benefits of reading, but the mom in me takes over some times! Ha!

My daughter tortures me by destroying her room. Over and over. Like twice a day. She especially has an obsession about pulling everything off her changing table (she’s about 2). That is the ONE area where I like everything folded and neatly stacked so I can’t make her pick it up — I have to do it myself!! Sigh.

LOL! I’m always sad when Christmas is over…so much so that our tree is still up (embarrassingly so)…well, I don’t know if it’s still up b/c I’m sad Christmas is over or we’re just sorely procrastinating…either way, the transition from magical Christmas season to regular life is a tough one!

We’re stuck on “O Little Town of Bethlehem” here- unfortunately my daughter taught it to her brother who still doesn’t speak much English so while he loves it, it is the most garbled toddler rendition you have ever imagined. And neither can carry a tune!

This is so funny! My 4yo comes out of her room every night after we put her to bed. It’s funny to watch her try to think of a reason she “needs” us after she comes out. Mostly, we have to fix her “fuzzy covews(covers)” that go under her comforter. Then she always gives us sweet kisses so we won;t get mad.
