And Back To School We Go

September 7, 2009

school  Tuesday marks the first day of school. Finally. I say finally, not necessarily because I want to get rid of my kids, but because seriously, it is practically mid-September and the kids are ready already. And a little bit because I want to get rid of my kids. And I mean that in the most “I love my children to death” sort of way. What is wild to me is that BOTH girls will be in school this year. Lily will be in first grade which means she will be gone all day, every day (CRAZY!!). And Hannah is tackling her first year of preschool two days a week.

Do the math with me will you? Lily= gone all day every day. Hannah = gone 2 mornings. Which means until baby #3 comes, mommy has 2 mornings a week all to herself. Add in the fact that Hannah still takes naps most afternoons and that = 2 mornings and 5 afternoons mommy has all to herself. I really should probably think of some projects to do or something but most likely I will twitter and read magazines. In all fairness to myself, anytime I start to clean or do anything remotely strenuous lately I start having fake contractions. So why tax my uterus, right?

The two girls are off the charts excited for school. Backpacks are packed. Clothes are laid out. Alarms are set. And somehow we have to start getting up when it is still dark outside. On second thought, maybe those mornings will involve a whole lot of sleep. Don’t judge, I am growing a human.

We’ve got a first grader and a preschooler here this year too (and a third grader)! I get 3 mornings a week to myself, and am just a teensy bit excited. :)

I’m finding it odd to think that my Hannah won’t be coming home on the bus at lunchtime today – it’s going to be an odd afternoon with just my 3-year-old and me.

Oh, enjoy every minute of your free time. I have one in 3rd grade, one starting Kindergarten, and one starting preschool. Sooo… three mornings a week during preschool, I am only going to have one little one at home. I cannot imagine it! And, preschool starts tomorrow. (Kindergarten started today- while the older grades started last week.)
