So I haven’t done many personal posts since little Silas arrived. I kind of made it easy on myself and scheduled stuff for October I could write ahead of time in case in a sleep deprived state I couldn’t put two sentences together. And that will continue a bit. Not just because I am sleep deprived, but because I have some fun giveaways and great companies to tell you about. So hopefully you will stick with me while I get my blogging feet back on the ground.
On the home front, Silas is amazing. He so far is a very easy baby and the family is rolling with the new addition pretty well. Of course, it isn’t great having a baby during swine flu hysteria. See, I am typically out and about right away after having a baby. I am not the best “stay at home” stay at home mom. But with all the sickies around, I have barely left the house in three weeks. Adding to the hysteria, Lily’s school closed down last week because of high absentee rates.
We have been healthy around here thus far (knocking on wood), but we are being much more cautious than usual. Daily bleach baths, hazmat suits. You know the typical flu defense. Actually, just a lot of staying at home away from crowds and a whole lotta hand washing. And we will probably get the H1N1 vaccine when we can. I know it is controversial, but I also know of several people who have been hit very hard and something about holding a helpless newborn in your arms while watching news reports about deaths makes me want to run to the nearest health center and give the shot to myself.
So to sum up: hazmat suits, bleach baths and complete isolation. What’s new with you?

Isolation sounds like a very good idea with a newborn right now!

Sounds like a good idea to keep that sweet baby away from crowds. We too, have been staying home more than usual. It has been kind of nice! Good luck staying healthy!

The key to making it not so boring is buying lavender scented bleach and hot pink hazmat suits. It livens up the scenario quite a bit. All kidding aside, we’re going through the same thing in our school district except our schools are not closed – yet. My daughter is home sick again. Gosh, my little kitten even got sick. I look forward to the sick season being over.
Lots of love to your newborn.

I hibernate for weeks after having babies.
I’m with you on the h1n1 hysteria – vaccines sound a whole lot better when you think about a teeny helpless little one in your home!!

I didn’t leave the house after having Boo for about 3 weeks, just because it was regular flu season, you just never know. Plus, people have this strange thing with touching babies. Creeps me out a bit.

I’m like you and wouldn’t be used to hibernating with a newborn, but, it’s crazy out there these days with all the H1N1 hoopla. Stay safe and cozy!
Not much going on this neck of the wood. Just back to the daily grind after a busy 4 day weekend.

love this kind of post. And I’m with you on the flu shots – I wanted both seasonal and H1N1 for my toddler (he’s the one most likely to bring it into our house, which — like yours — contains a newborn).
I also read this very funny post a short while ago by another blogger, on the flu vaccines. Enjoy.
